IE8 growing market share, threat to firefox!!!

Everyone is talking about the demise of IE6 and IE7 and the growth of Firefox as the default browser or the browser with more users. But none of them really care about the true statistics. Considering the past one year for the browser market share of various browsers, Firefox undoubtedly the biggest gainer in terms of users but there is a small twist to the tale.

IE8 is one browser that is making heads turn. It has seen a lot of growth in the past few months and it has come up to a level that it has seen 800% growth in past four months itself. The irony here is that firefox is still growing. Just in the past month we can see that firefox has lost its market a bit and it is definitely gained by IE8 and few other browsers like chrome and safari. Undoubtedly firefox is in the race for the top spot. But Microsoft has surely found a winner in the form of IE8 which is the best browser in terms of security and integrity...

All of IE8's growth is coming from IE 7 though. That's the result of Windows automatic update automatically upgrading IE 7 users to IE 8.

None of that is share coming from other browsers so it's not really IE growth. It's just an IE transfer.

@Harold @Anonymous Thanks for your precious comments. They help me lot in building up the blog.

According to the industry news and my sources most of the corporate world is now saying that IE8 is the best equipped browser when it comes to security issues and hence they are prefering IE8.

Regarding the market share definitely IE7 loss is IE8 gain but the gain % is more than the loss % of IE7, that way there is some gain from other browsers. I might be wrong but not completely wrong I guess...

Windows 7 also comes default with IE8.

What many people also fail to think about when trying to force people to Firefox is that IE8 is more than good enough for the end user. Especially on older PCs that are good enough for people who just web browse, email, @ occasional document. Firefox will kill those PCs especially if the person who installed FF added their choice of add-ons.

IE8 offers security features not found in Firefox like a sandbox mode for starters.
