Delhi - 6 review ...

When you see the title of this movie, the director, the music director and especially the ads you expect a lot from the movie. But the movie Delhi 6 has failed to reach the expectations on it. But it holds some good ground when it comes to the basic idea.

The director Rakeysh .... Mehra was able to extract some good action from the lead pair as well as from other actors. The visuals were good when it comes to the interiors of Delhi but there wasn't much exposure to the virtual Delhi(I used 'virtual' here because, everybody feels that real Delhi is in the slums and poverty). Almost all the actors have done justice to their roles and nobody went overboard.

Things I liked::

  • Abhishek's character as a confused NRI born to a hindu father and muslim mother.
  • Atul Kulkarni's soft character.
  • Strong diggs at the religious blindness and stupidity of the morons in the society around us.
  • Definitely the tunes from Mr. Rahman.
  • Sonam Kapoor was pretty good as the old city girl with high aspirations.
  • "Dilgira" song has some cool graphics and it was really a colorful song.
  • The Kala bhandar concept was definitely a innovative thing.

Things I ......, you know me::

  • First of all the placement of songs, this really irritated not just me but everyone in the theatre. I don't know what the hell was the director thinking. It wasn't any freakish mujra damn it.
  • The reason why Abhishek wants to stay back in India wasn't justified to the fullest.
  • The narration of the story was a bit slow.
  • The Ramleela episode was a prolonged one which some times freaks you out.
  • The climax was good but didn't by any means helped the movie.
  • The first half was a bit slow with all those introductions of different characters.
  • Rahman's music was wasted big time. It was for the music otherwise the movie would have fallen flat on it's face.

Finally the movie is definitely not a must watch. You can skip the movie in theatres but can relish the music after the dvd hits the stands. One thing everyone who watched the movie quoted was

Idea is good but execution bad...
