Twitter has failed again and this is not a new thing but the screen shot shown was something new. Yesterday night for almost 1 hr twitter was half operative. By half-operative, I mean I could see my twitter homepage but couldn't tweet or re-tweet. The screenshot above is taken from yesterdays twitter outage...

$675,000 penalty for illegally downloading music...

Joel Tenenbaum, a student of Boston University has been ordered by the court to pay up $675,000 as penalty for illegally downloading music and sharing with others. Joel isn't that shocked by the verdict as he was expecting the penalty to be in millions. Tenenbaum has previously admitted that he has downloaded more than 800 songs between 1999 and 2007 on his home computer in Rhode Island and at his college computer in Maryland. The jury was in a position to fine him around 4.5 million dollars for all the songs at a rate of $150,000 for each of the songs downloaded. This is just the second case of copyright infringement law in the Main land USA.

What is he going to do now and are the record industries going to get any money back from this verdict??? The answer is no. Joel Tenenbaum is definitely going to declare bankruptcy and hence get out of this case in a simple way. But he has got some very good support from the RIAA and MPAA haters. This is just an option for Joel. Whether he goes this way or not is left to his discretion. Be careful guys, next time you download something be careful to get them encrypted or something else like that....

IE8 growing market share, threat to firefox!!!

Everyone is talking about the demise of IE6 and IE7 and the growth of Firefox as the default browser or the browser with more users. But none of them really care about the true statistics. Considering the past one year for the browser market share of various browsers, Firefox undoubtedly the biggest gainer in terms of users but there is a small twist to the tale.

IE8 is one browser that is making heads turn. It has seen a lot of growth in the past few months and it has come up to a level that it has seen 800% growth in past four months itself. The irony here is that firefox is still growing. Just in the past month we can see that firefox has lost its market a bit and it is definitely gained by IE8 and few other browsers like chrome and safari. Undoubtedly firefox is in the race for the top spot. But Microsoft has surely found a winner in the form of IE8 which is the best browser in terms of security and integrity...

Hottest stars in a single frame...

This is the pic of Taylor Lautner, the Twilight star and Taylor Swift, my new girl. These two Taylors are right now in LA shooting for their new movie Valentine's Day. These two are the latest sensations on the block and are considered to be the hottest stars right now. When they are in a single frame, it is going to be a dream for the paparazzi and a delight for the fans. Waiting for their new movie, hope it turns out to be a good one...

Nero 9 essential for free- the really essential stuff!!!

Nero has at last heard the anguish from its users and now released a stripped down version of their nearly 500MB weighing software "nero 9". Now they are offering a 55mb file of Nero 9 in the name of Nero essentials where-in you have just the cd and dvd burning software which is the bare essential. The picture viewing crap and all other nasty things are removed from it.

Of course it is a ripped down version but it still has some flaws like the installation for this file is taking around 5 minutes and even the uninstall process is taking around 2 mins and Nero hasn't learnt anything in this respect. The amazing thing here is that Nero 9 essentials occupies as low as 10 MB on your hard drive and is very fast in reaction time.

The best part here is that they are offering this software for free unlike the other versions. You can download it for free from here by just entering your email id. For the fully overloaded professional version, you need to pay the money still.

Search forums the easy way... Omgili...

This is another forum search engine in addition to the boardreader search engine that I previously discussed in this blog. The best part with Omgili is that you are provided with an advanced search option where you can mention your priorities like language selection, dates, discussions, number of replies, no. of people in the discussion,etc...

Google@Omgili is one interesting feature given out by Omgili where you can get google results. Of course you can get these results by directly searching in Google. But whats new with this service is that, there is a number on the side of the results which mentions the total no. of discussions about that particular link. That way you can go to the hot and happening discussion forums...

Internet users numbers - Who said Internet is dying???

Just saw this chart from news.com site and thought to spread the word. Just when everyone is shouting about the death of internet being near here is one new chart which things otherwise. This chart gives out the answer for dying internet in a whole new perspective by showing the internet users in numbers, actually in millions. Two of the biggest nations relying on technology USA and Japan are having the highest percentage of population with internet usage. They are having the no.s of 74.7% and 73.8% respectively.

Of course China is leading with 298 million users compared to all other nations. Given the fact that they are the largely populated country in the whole world, it didn't surprise me. What surprised me was with the internet surfing people as low as 7.1% of the entire population, India is in the race with 81 million people, standing 4th only to the above mentioned three countries.

Internet marketers should consider this country as the biggest market ever for expansion with the largest potential of growth. India and China are the future of internet according to this map and me. Hope everyone now recognizes where the real potential is and start sharpening their swords as the battle for leadership is already on its way now...

August 4th - No Megan Fox Day....

Media around the globe has come up with a unique idea of blocking out the beautiful Megan Fox from media limelight for one whole day. Why??? The reason that the sites state is that, they have given the public an overdose of Megan Fox this summer and hence want to break away from that monotony. For one day you will not be able to see Megan Fox on most of the websites and news media. For one day you won't be knowing what nail polish she is wearing, what dress she is hugging, with whom she went out for clubbing, blah, blah, blah...

The day is decided as August 4th and it as I call is "NO Megan Fox Day". I don't know how successful that day is gonna be but definitely it is going to increase the fan following for her and definitely it will cause people to search for her more. But one thing is for sure all these sites are definitely publicity seeking and I am proud to say I am one of them. By the way this is the 200th post in this blog... Thanks for your support all through....

LG Chocolate - BL40, first look!!!

Lg is one company which I never had a lot of 'love for' but still I bought their products and I definitely don't know why. Now they have come up with something new and it is named, LG chocolate - BL40 which is an advanced version of the previously released LG chocolate. This has got a touch screen interface and definitely a big cam as evident from the pics. They have installed a 5 MegaPixel camera, 21:9 resolution screen.

The mobile looks sleek and beautiful in the pictures but we still need to know a lot about the features of this mobile before we can give a thumbs up for this product. Commenting on it would be really premature.

If twitter had Just 100 People as patrons...

This pic might be funny but this is the truth. More than 25% of the accounts in twitter are dead accounts. None of them tweet or re-tweet, no matter what. More than 50% of the twitterers are so lazy that they don't tweet in ages.

As clearly explained by the pic above, it's just the 5% of twitterers that is ruling the roost with their loud mouths. If you follow the twittering carefully u will notice that only 5 or 10 people that you follow will tweet regularly and after a month or two you will notice that there hasn't been a regular tweet from you as well. I rank myself among the few who tweet regularly but definitely not verbose...

Michael Schumacher making a comeback of sorts!!!

Michael Schumacher is another Michael whom I like a lot. The speeds that he achieved, the track records he holds and being the seven time world champion in Formula One are a few to mention who he is and what he is capable of. Without Michael Ferrari team was in doldrums and good news to all those Ferrari and Schumacher fans out there is that he is gonna come back to the race track. His comeback might be as early as the next F1 race.

He is not coming back to prove the world what he is made of nor to answer some unanswered questions but to fill in the seat of Felipe Massa, the driver of Ferrari who hurt himself during one of those qualifying sessions, when he was involved in a deadly crash. Michael will go through certain procedures before going onto the field in the European grandprix and might see through the season for Ferrari...

Natural beauty at its best....

Just a nice pic from my collection. One of those places where the eye can't see the end of the world. One of those most serene locations on the face of earth, where there is no fear for tomorrow. The sun just goes down and the sea is on a high. Imagine you and your beloved walking along the length of the sea into a world of unlimited love. That's what Life can offer you, nothing more, nothing less...

Free Wi-Fi from Barnes and Nobles...

Barnes and Nobles the guys with lots of books are now moving slowly towards the technology as well. They recently threatened Kindle from Amazon with a set of free e-books and now they are into another mode of giving free wi-fi in their stores. People who spend lot of time in B&N are now in for a treat with free wi-fi.

B&N has teamed up with at&t and are now serving the public with free wi-fi and you don't need to pay a penny for using it. As you all are aware that B&N had wi-fi before but you need to pay for that, but gone are those days its now you who is the king and now they want you to surf the internet and surf their catalogs of books at a time and everything is on the house. So its gonna be a party all through the way. Basically what you have to pay is the coffee that you sip on while reading your books for free and now surfing the web for FREE...

Microsoft says, " Yahoo!!! We love you " !!!

Microsoft and Yahoo have at last, came to an understanding, regarding their search market and now are in a 10 year deal, for sharing the internet search market. According to my sources, Microsoft bing search engine is going to power the yahoo search market from now on and Microsoft will in turn give 88% of its profits to Yahoo. Yahoo is held responsible for bringing in the bigger advertisers who are the moola of ad revenue.

All this is being done just to stop Google from being the supreme. Microsoft want to kill Google in a single blow by cutting its main revenue that is coming from its search market. Google had recently announced that they are coming up with an Operating System of sorts, with the Google Chrome OS and now Microsoft has come back with a bigger answer in the form of a threat to the Google's financial sources. But one thing I can tell you is that, even if Yahoo and Bing work together, it is going to be a whole lot of crap in a big junkyard, nothing more than that...

Via CNN

PS:: My Miami friend just informed that with the deal news coming out Google market value has shrunk by 1% and Yahoo has lost almost equal to 6.5%. Microsoft is the clear benefitter from the deal with a growth of 1.5% to its market value...

Here is the funny video of actor Kevin Spacey explaining what Twitter is all about to the "most cheapest of the lot" late night hosts, David Letterman. Of course he did not completely do the training stuff but nevertheless a few grins were generated in the process.

Firefox 4.0 in the making....

Mozilla team have recently released the Firefox 3.5 version without much fanfare but with lots of good stuff for us to browse the web with ease. But then what, is it the end of road for Firefox the browser that everyone loves. Definitely a big "NO" is the answer from the Mozilla team who are already into their pants and running all around for the new designs and mockups for the newest and the best version yet of Firefox in the form of Firefox 4.0.

Just now saw the Firefox 4 mockups from Mashable, one of my rarely visited sites but definitely a favorite. They have done lot of work on the interface which includes changes to the look and feel and lot other changes as well. They have this tabs-on-top design as an option for Firefox 4.0 just like the chrome browser from Google. They are also trying to include the go button in the address bar which is going to be a mixture of go-stop-refresh in one button. This is definitely a real estate saver and an handy button. Head over to Mashable for the authors take on Firefox 4.0

Living Legends - Lance Armstrong...

If there is one sportsman whom people love not just because his victories, not just because his records, not just because his celebrity status, not just because his humanitarian service, then he definitely is a legend according to me. Lance Edward Armstrong is one such living legend. Why I call him a legend.

Because he won the world famous Tour de France, seven consecutive times in the same no. of years from 1999 to 2005. Because he came back from the face of death, after he was diagnosed with testicular cancer, when he was at age 25. Because he races not for fun but for a cause, not for records but for a reason. Because he is what he is today is just enough for a lot others to build hope on their dwindling lives and fight against all odds. These are a few reasons why I call him a legend.

He did not win the race in 2006 because he retired after winnin seven consecutive times. Now he is back into the race at the age of 38 years and claimed third position in the overall race standings by racing against the younger legs of 25 and 28 years old guys. That's why he is the legend. I salute you Lance with the respect that I give to a few....

Jackson's hair being made into diamonds...

Michael Jackson was supposed to rest in peace and a lot of the people around have prayed for him after his death. But a few are there who are still roaming out there in this world and not allowing him to peacefully rest. There was one news saying his nose wasn't in place, when he was taken to the morgue, some said that he fathered a secret child who is not disclosed to the world.

Now here is a news saying that his hair is being made into diamonds. A company named LifeGem, which can extract carbon from hair and turn them into crystals, is claiming that they have the hair of Michael and they also are about to turn his hair into diamonds and sell them for a fortune. They claim that the hair is from the burnt part of his hair which he lost during a pepsi ad shooting in the 80's. This is ridiculous in a way that Michael has no place to rest, not even after his death.

Partying kingsize - The Indian Way...

This is one of those umpteen pics from my friends orkut album where he has posted the preparations made for his birthday, which was just two days ago. This pic shows how Indians celebrate their birthdays in style. Man this food is so mouth watering and like out of this world.

I can guess two or three from them, like the egg Biryani which sits right in the center, Gulab Jamoon the sweet on the top left, bhajji on the extreme left and different varities of non-veg curries spread around. This is what I call Partying kingsize and with so many delicious dishes around I am definitely going to loose my calorie count. Of course I wasn't any where near him but still the pics are enough for me to rejoice. Happy birthday again UNIRS...

Padma Lakshmi controversial ad for Carls JR...

Which one is hot??? The burger or Padma Lakshmi... This one made me do two things, one is that I wanted to eat a whole burger then and there and the second one Padma Lakshmi on my desktop. Man she is hot!!!

Of course she says that she has a love affair with fooooood, but she was more like doing something raunchy with the burger rather than eating it. But the ad definitely made me hungry and not just hunger but hungry for a whole burger with everything in it, lettuce, tomatoes, romaine, onions, ketchup, chicken breast, wow my mouth is watering again...

This chart is so real that I feel they have read my mind and kept up the results. In fact it is only the Lord of the Rings trilogy that has fared equally in all three installments. Some other trilogies including Die Hard, Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Rocky have fared pretty good just considering the first three installments of each of them.

Softwares I use... Part III - VLC media player...

This is one media player which wasn't that great a player 3 years back and had so less patrons that even the high-fi computer users weren't aware of its presence around them. But change the calender 3 years and here you are with VLC media player leading the tarmac ahead of all other media players when it comes to playing video files. This hasn't been possible in a single day but it took some years and lots of codecs later, VLC is here at its present status. Just as Rome wasn't built in a single day.

But why only VLC? VLC is the only player available for free and plays almost every possible media file ranging from .avi to .mkv and .dat as well. This is the most important point in the mass appeal of VLC. You don't need to install millions of media players for playing varied media files.

VLC comes with almost all the available codecs for playing media files and yet it uses the most minimalistic resources from your CPU. It barely uses around 50 MB of your most precious RAM. VLC has recently released version 1.0 which is an updated version with lots of fixes and lot of new codecs for you. Try it out from the link below...

Manhattan bridge swaying like hell...

Watch this video carefully, Manhattan bridge is swaying as if in the movie of "Godzilla Returns". Of course this is fun to watch but considering the fact that lots of lives travel over it daily, it should definitely be considered dangerous and must be looked into.

Windows 7 coming your way, pretty soon, I guess!!!

Windows 7 has been released to manufacturing just two days back and will be on its way as soon as October 22, 2009. This is an old news. What's new? Windows 7 RTM version is now available for download on the internet through various bit-torrent sites. You can get your piece right now. But beware of the illegal copy right laws and the various versions filled with malware that can damage your system altogether.

This hasn't caused any panic among Microsoft circles because this was long expected. As soon as the Beta or the RC versions came out, they were on the torrent sites in a jiffy. So when the RTM is released no one cares. I wouldn't encourage you to download such a file but it's left upto you.

Identify the language that you are looking at...

Many a number of times you will be looking at some unknown text on the internet and will be wondering,"if only I knew what language it is!!!". Now you don't need to wonder but you can just find out what language it is with just a click of sorts. Here is a website named langID which I think is most aptly named helping you in finding out the identity of a language. You just need to enter the text into the box and most of the times it will give you correct results but when the text is very short, the engine goes haywire and says it quits. Like when I entered the text "hum hai hindusthani" which is in the language of Hindi, it gave me a weird result of Vietnamese. Try for urself

Beware of AVG!!! Find out why....

Yes it's me a staunch supporter of AVG anti-virus. Yes, it's me saying to be aware of what is happening with AVG these days. AVG is one anti-virus suite which I preferred over other anti-virus providers all these days. But from the past 2 months I am experiencing some uncommon faults with my computer and I just brushed them off saying that the computer became old and hence it is behaving strangely.

But I was wrong. There is this problem with AVG which I overlooked with my blind faith in AVG. AVG basically slowed down my laptop more than imaginable. AVG is using resources more than expected. Now it has become so weak that it is unable to detect any of the malware coming in from websites and I had to restore all my settings more than thrice in the past month. Of course there can be cure for this but as of now, get rid of your AVG anti-virus and go to something else like avast or avira, which are as free as AVG is.

Does internet really explode???

It's as if something is going to blast off. Just look at how fast internet is raising in all the countries worldwide. The significant one here are China and India with a growth rate of nearly 6% and 9% in less than 6 years of time. This definitely is not going to stop anytime in the near future...

Myths about "Solar Eclipse"...

People in some parts of the world are going to witness a total solar eclipse on July 22,2009. A total solar eclipse occurs when the new moon is placed just in the position that it completely covers the face of the sun, as we see it from earth. There are lots of myths spread out there and people from different countries believe them differently. Here are a few of those myths, if u want to laugh at them u have my permission...

* Pregnant women are advised not to go outside during the eclipse to avoid the birth of an unhealthy baby.

* Food cooked during eclipse becomes impure and hence should not be consumed.

* People believe that if someone has a sharp object like a knife in their hands during the eclipse, they will tend to cut themselves.

* Eclipses are a result of fights between sun and moon.

* Red clothing looks black or dark grey.

When you find something interesting on the internet how do you share it with your people. I mostly use my blog as a medium but other than this I prefer using the good old mail system. But when I saw this study on how people share their stuff on the internet in mashable, I was astonished at what people are using for sharing stuff. I never expected facebook to occupy almost 25% of this market.

One more shock for me was from digg.com. I was expecting it to be among the top 5 but its share was a poor 4.4%, which is a megre considering the market it has around. Twitter was another social site that made it into the top league as expected. Check how your mode of sharing fared in the chart above...
