Store your SMS online, never delete it

I just found this useful article in the makeuseof website. You always find it hard to delete the messages from your mobile once the maximum limit reaches. But with the website Treasuremytext you never ever need to delete your messages. Create an account then just forward your messages to a standard rate numbers given on their website. Save a message and it appears instantly in your Inbox. It'll never be lost or accidentally deleted when you change or upgrade phones and there's no limit on storage so you'll never run out of space.
Keeping lots of SMS on a mobile can get messy. With Treasuremytext you just drag and drop your messages to folders. Built in is your own contacts list with buddy pictures so you'll know exactly who said what and when. With a real keyboard at your fingers sending SMS is a whole lot faster and now even cheaper. Send messages home or abroad for just 5 Euro cents. Messages are from your own number so replies arrive right back on your own phone.

The gadget with highest sales...

Do you expect it to be an ipod, motorazr, chocolate or a play station. Nope, your guess is wrong. The winner comes like a surprise to some but not for those 200 million proud owners of Nokia 1100 mobile phone. I was one of them but 5 years back.

The Nokia 1100 is a durable ultrabasic GSM mobile phone produced by Nokia with a 96 x 65 monochrome screen. It is targeted towards developing countries and users who do not require advanced features beyond making calls and SMS text messages, alarm clock, reminders, etc. This is termed as a dust-proof mobile which entered the market at the right time to achieve this feat. Though it is not for those advanced users but it is still pretty good.

I still remember the ad back in India, "Nokia 1100 Made For India".

Shine for Women with love from Yahoo

Yahoo Inc has launched a new site, Shine for women between ages 25 and 54. Launch of Shine is aimed largely at giving the struggling Internet company additional opportunities to sell advertising targeted to the key decision-maker in many households. Yahoo said advertisers in consumer-packaged goods, retail and pharmaceuticals have requested more ways to reach those consumers.

With Shine, Yahoo plans to expand its offerings in parenting, sex and love, healthy living, food, career and money, entertainment, beauty, home life, and astrology. This site is Yahoo's first targeting a specific audience and not just a topic.

Yahoo is partnering with media companies like Hearst Communications Inc and Rodale Inc for content exclusive to Shine.

Foobar music player, U'll Love it

I guess the first music player to have a tabbed playlist organizer. I just started using it and now I am a fan of it. I was vexed up with all those vlcs, windows media, winamp which use up a lot of resources for playing music and have predefined keys. The only minus point foobar has is that it has no support for videos but who cares.

The new Foobar2000 music player is an advanced player for Windows. Some of the basic features include full unicode support, ReplayGain support and native support for several popular audio formats. It has customizable keyboard shortcuts. Above all I liked the ability of this player to show the playlists in tabbed order and we can even rename the tabs. It might not be an instant hit with the eyes but once you get used to it, you will never leave it alone.

What is Linux? Enlighten yourself...

What is Linux? This was and is the question that arises in the minds of a lot of computer users rather windows and macintosh users. I am one of them. I sometimes feel why isn't there any other operating system which could beat windows in user interface and be lovable by millions. I can't accept mac as an answer. So, I am still searching for one good OS.

A friend of mine says that my search would end with Linux. I said what? What the hell is Linux? He laughed at my ignorance and said use it to know it. I just wrote off his words and continued with windows. But not too far in time Linux has slowly started to conquer the computing world.

Linux is a free open-source alternative to Windows and Macintosh. millions of programmers around the world work to improve Linux with their free time. They've worked hard to bring Linux to maturity, and as of the past couple years, it has reached a mature stage where the average computer user is more than capable of using it. In other words, you no longer need to know how a computer works or how to program in order for Linux to be useful to you.

Watch SouthPark Legally and Uncensored

Yes, its true. You can now watch all full episodes of southpark for free that too legally and added to it all we do have the uncensored versions of those videos. I personally didnot like this show when I first viewed it 20 months ago. But now I am a big fan of Cartman. He is the most spoiled kid alive, I personally believe.
The video clarity is pretty good and above all it's legal now. So go out there and have fun buddies. All the videos are available HERE...

Catch some good Deals and Coupons....

I was searching for the deals of a canon digicam for my friend and accidentally visited a site, WAZIMA. This is one cool site where we can just type in our required product and zoom there goes the results from various websites. It shows a lot of deals and coupon codes for umpteen products in different sites.

I thought to share with you as we all are those price-conscious people. It really helps in finding the required item at the required price. The results vary from dell home site to amazon.com. Just give it a try to view the results on your own.

First Email virus....

The ILOVEYOU worm, also known as VBS/Loveletter and Love Bug worm, is a computer worm written in VBScript. The worm, first discovered in Hong Kong, arrived in e-mail boxes on May 4, 2000, with the simple subject of "ILOVEYOU" and an attachment "LOVE-LETTER-FOR-YOU.TXT.vbs".

The Pentagon, CIA, and the British Parliament had to shut down their e-mail systems to get rid of the worm, as did most large corporations.

This worm program is believed to have been written by Michael Buen. The Barok trojan used by the worm is believed to have been written by Onel de Guzman, a Filipino student of AMA Computer University in Makati, Philippines.

Narinnat Suksawat, a 25-year-old Thai software engineer, was the first person to write software that repaired the damage caused by the worm, releasing it to the public on May 5, 2000, 24 hours after the worm had spread. "Rational Killer", the program he created, removed virus files and restored the previously removed system files so they again functioned normally. Two months later, Narinnat was offered a senior consultant job at Sun Microsystems and worked there for two years.

A Firefox Addon for porn WTH!!!

When I clicked the social and communication category of addons, I found this weird addon that leads to a porn site. The website is bingtheporn. They claim to have highly organized porn for all tastes. WTH man was I supposed to install an addon for porn in my firefox. The stupidest thing here is that it is on the first page of the category social and communication. I guess the porn is not the way in which we socially communicate.

Guess who would post such an article on the first page. I was the one who praised for the total facelift of firefox website but now they let me down by having such cheap addons on their site.

Ramee:: Stop your nonsense and grow up kid, porn and Tom Cruise are the only ones' that sell these days.

Earth Hour, Whaaat!!!!!

Twenty-six major cities around the world are expected to turn off the lights on major landmarks, plunging millions of people into darkness to raise awareness about global warming, organisers said. 'Earth Hour' founder Andy Ridley said 371 cities, towns or local governments from Australia to Canada and even Fiji had signed up for the 60-minute shutdown at 0900 GMT on March 29.

Cities officially signed on include Chicago and San Francisco, Dublin, Manila, Bangkok, Copenhagen and Toronto, all of which will switch off lights on major landmarks and encourage businesses and homeowners to follow suit. The initiative began in Sydney last year and has become a global event, sweeping across 35 countries this year.

Organisers hope the initiative will encourage people to be more aware of their energy usage, knowing that producing electricity pollutes the atmosphere through the burning of fossil fuels which are contributing to global warming.

Ramee says " Don't confuse it to McDonald's Happy Hour you fools. It's earth hour to enjoy more happy hours".

World's lightest Cell Phone

The Guinness World Records named the Modu phone as the lightest cell phone in the world. At just 1.5 ounces and 2.8 by 1.4 by 0.3 inches, the Modu is a full ounce lighter than the already miniature Pantech C300.
In case you're not familiar, Modu is a modular cell phone that can be placed into "jackets" that change the both the appearance and the functionality of the handset. The Modu only has a tiny display, a couple of navigation controls, a mini-USB port, and a charger jack. It's a normal cell phone in most respects but you're not really meant to use by itself. Instead, it's designed to be inserted into one of the jackets, which basically are the shells of a larger candy bar phone.

Firefox addons webpage stunning make-over

This was the regular addons page which got revamped I guess just yesterday into the page in the pic below.

The new webpage looks glossy and has some good color combinations. The navigation is also pretty cool. But it might take some time before we get adjusted to this new site.

Direct Folders - Pump up your ride

I just found this very handy tool for those nerds who doesn't like a lot of icons on their desktops. This is one cool tool for many who store their files in deepest dens by creating folder after folder. You can get rid of those docks on the desktop and make it a place for good wallpapers. I bet you all will like this one.

Direct Folders guarantees you quick and direct access to your favorite folders and recent documents. Jump to any deeply nested folder in a single mouse click. Direct Folders automatically resizes every standard file dialog, so you can see a larger number of files. Find what you are looking for with less scrolling.

There are several ways to access Direct Folders. One of the easiest is to simply double click in the empty area of the desktop, Explorer or File Open/Save dialog box, which brings up a menu. Select a favorite or recent folder from this menu and the file dialog immediately jumps to that folder. If you activate this menu from the Desktop or tray icon, this folder will be opened in Windows Explorer or another file manager.

Sehwag joins the Don and Lara....

Virender Sehwag hammered his career's second Test triple century and the fastest of all time here Friday to join the legendary Australian Don Bradman and West Indies' Brian Lara. Resuming at his overnight 52, Sehwag completed his career's 14th century on the third day of the first Test against South Africa.

He reached the coveted 300-mark off 278 balls, cracking 41 boundaries and five sixes, which made his knock the fastest in the 131-year history of the game. Only these three batsmen have scored two triple centuries in Tests. Interestingly, his second triple ton came just a day before the fourth anniversary of his 309. It was Test cricket's 22nd triple century.

At stumps, Sehwag was batting on 309 (292 balls, 41x4s, 5x6s) along with Rahul Dravid (65, 181 balls, 8x4s) in India's first-innings total of 468 for one wicket in 106 overs. South Africa scored 540 in their first innings.

The original 1 GB hard disk !!!!!!

We are so lucky, we don't need to carry all that stuff around for just transferring a 1 GB of memory. Thanks to us geeks( self proclaimed though), otherwise how would 1 TB hard drive be today.

Watch the paper on the side it says something in some language but I could understand that it belongs to IBM and it is of 1 GB size.

Britney's appearance fetches highest rating ever...

Britney Spears' guest appearance on How I Met Your Mother Monday night, March 24, fetched the CBS sitcom its highest rating ever. The episode earned a 4.5 preliminary rating among adults aged 18-49, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

The show which averaged 10.7 million viewers, up from last week's 9.7 million, was the fourth highest rated show of the evening. While the rating boost could be attributed to hype and curiosity, the appreciation from critics was well deserved by Britney who was facing a camera after a long time.

"Spears proved she can act every bit as well as she can sing," wrote the New York Daily News.
"Brit looked slim, (OK she was behind a desk), trim and gorgeous," wrote the New York Post.

Dropped your gadget in water, Rush to Kitchen

What is the next step that you would take if your expensive mobile phone or iPod gets wet in the rain or your drop it in a wash basin or a swimming pool? Since the warranty for most electronics does not cover water damage, what can you do to revive that wet gadget ? The answer is in your kitchen.

Here's the trick, power off the device (if it’s not off already) and try to completely cover the iPod or iPhone in a bowl of uncooked rice. Rice being a natural desiccant will help absorb the excess moisture. Let it dry for at least 24 hours and DO NOT try to charge the device. If your gadget has a removable battery, dry it separately to speed up the whole drying process.

Update:: You can safely carry your iPods, Blackberry Phones or the regular cellphones to the beach, swimming pool or even inside the shower without the fear that water will damage your gadget. There is this video demonstrates how to save that expensive Motorola smart phone from water inside a bath tub. All you need is a condom to protect your phone and once covered, you can even make and receive calls with the phone without leaving the tub.

Here is the video...

YouTube Video Stats

YouTube now shows you some statistics for your videos. You can find this feature (called “YouTube Insight”) by logging in to your My Videos page, and then clicking the “About this video” buttons.

uploaders can see how often their videos are viewed in different geographic regions, as well as how popular they are relative to all videos in that market over a given period of time. I don’t have any popular videos to test this, but would be interested to hear how some of you would fare with more popular films.

Space Tourism by 2010

This might be another silly prank for many but a shot in the hand for some real enthusiastic space travellers(would be though). This might be the biggest dream ever. You and your lover or your loved one travelling out there in the space, away from these earthly matters. Oh boy I would love to be the first of them. Ok, dreams apart I just read this article in associated press about a space carrier.

A California aerospace company plans to enter the space tourism industry with a two-seat rocket ship capable of suborbital flights to altitudes more than 37 miles(61 km) above the Earth. The Lynx, about the size of a small private plane, is expected to begin flying in 2010, according to developer Xcor Aerospace, which planned to release details of the design at a news conference Wednesday.

The Lynx is designed to take off from a runway like a normal plane, reach a top speed of Mach 2 and an altitude of 200,000 feet, then descend in a circling glide to a runway landing. Reportedly, Lynx would be fueled by a kerosene / liquid oxygen mixture and could take off and land from traditional airstrips, and while it could manage several flights per day, each one is only slated to last 25 minutes.

Yahoo Messenger for Mac Adds Voice

The latest beta 3 release of Yahoo Messenger for Mac adds voice and voicemail capabilities a la Skype. Using Yahoo Messenger, computer to computer voice calls are free, and you can purchase a PhoneOut and/or PhoneIn account to call land line or cell phones, or receive calls on your computer, or even set up call forwarding to land lines or mobile phones. (Rates start at 1 cent/minute in the U.S.)
You can also send SMS messages with Yahoo Messenger, and get free voicemail; Yahoo Messenger delivers voicemail as an email attachment to the address you specify. Skype's had all these features for Mac and PC for some time now, so Yahoo's pretty late to the game—but it's still good to have options.

Protect Files from Deletion or Moving with FSLOCK

Sweeping through your system and deleting unnecessary files feels great—until you realize you've just permanently wiped your master contact spreadsheet. Avoid that kind of over-zealous deletion with fsLock, a free Windows tray utility that prevents a list of files from being deleted, moved, renamed, modified, or otherwise touched.
The utility has to be running to work, of course, and it used about 8K of memory on my Vista laptop, but I couldn't mess with my chosen files inside Windows. It's not a privacy or security tool, as you can get to the files through another OS or before booting, but it keeps your files safe from the casual destruction of "Select All->Delete." fsLock is a free download for Windows systems only.

According to ECTACO it won't be the Amazon Kindle or the Sony Reader that changes the way we read—it will be their new jetBook. Why? Second, it features a 5-inch, high-res TFT display, an MP3 player, bookmarking capability, multi-language support and an SD expansion slot. Yahoo Website from 1990's till Date...

Yahoo's website has come up a long way but the theme remains the same. Put whatever you can into the same page making it look like a fish market. But it has worked out pretty well for Yahoo though, so who cares whether it is a market or a butcher's shop...

Western Digital - The king does it again....

Western digital have brought out a new batch of My Passport Elite Usb drives. These drives are available in bronze, titanium, westminster blue and cherry red colors which are really proffesional to look at. The drives each boast a "soft-touch finish" to keep 'em from slipping out of your hands, and weigh in at a mere 5 ounces.

You'll also get a built-in capacity gauge to let you know how much space you have left, as well as the usual back-up software and security measures. You can grab a 250 GB model now for $170 or a 320 GB model for $200.

By the way this is my 100th post in my blog. It has been a short but refreshing journey for me from the past 3 months. Thanks to all my readers and friends who have been supporting me all this while. The only thing that stings me is that there hasn't been a visit from my birth place. Otherwise I am pretty happy with everything else...

Top 10 MP3 players - PC World

I found this interesting list of top ten mp3 players(flash based) in pcworld website. All the mp3 players in the list are clearly reviewed with a pic of each of them. None of the players could reach the 90 mark in the ratings. The highest rated mp3 player is given a rating of 83.

An intersting issue over here is that Apple Ipod or the much hyped Touch couldn't make it to the top 2 spots. The winner is Creative ZEN with two of its players in the top two positions. Sandisk has three of its models in the top ten, which is the highest number from a single manufacturer. Microsoft zune is placed at the number 8 spot.

I don't know whether these ratings are standard or not but this is one cool list though. For the complete ratings and reviews zoom here...

Windows XP SP3 ready for Launch...

The much awaited, less publicised Microsoft Windows XP SP3 is going to be released in this week. It's release might be on any day of this week starting from monday. I am one of those hard core XP fans who is awaiting the SP3 release. It hit me like a gift on a sunday morning when engadget hinted it's release.

This might definitely be the last addition to XP but who knows what's in the package for XP's future. We cannot let it die so easily. But lets celebrate the release of sp3 as of now. Lets hit the dance floor and make merry with the new release. Let the party begin....

Keep XP Alive, Burn Vista Live

Throw Vista away, that's what Infoworld.com have argued that Microsoft should do. Give it a dignified resting place, as a stepping-stone OS, and come up with a replacement that's more sensible for enterprise IT.

Windows Vista was supposed to be a shot in the arm for Microsoft, which had gone five years without a new desktop operating system. It hasn't worked out that way. Instead, Vista sales have been slower than XP's (when adjusted for market size) and there's been a distinct lack of passion for the new OS.

Infoworld.com launched a petition drive to ask Microsoft to keep selling XP after the planned June 30 end-of-sales date. Nine weeks after that Jan. 14 launch, more than 100,000 customers worldwide have signed up.
XP lovers can sign the petition HERE..

Corn Flake sold for $1350

Two sisters from Virginia sold their Illinois-shaped cornflake on eBay Friday night for $1,350. The winner of the auction, which lasted more than a week, is the owner of a trivia Web site, Kerr, who wants to add the cornflake to a traveling museum. Kerr owns TriviaMania.com and said he will likely send someone to Virginia to pick up the flake by hand, so it won't be damaged.

McIntire and her sister Emily, 15, listed the cornflake on eBay last week, but eBay canceled the auction, saying it violated the Web site's policy against selling food. The sisters restarted their eBay auction, advertising a coupon redeemable for their cornflake instead of the cereal itself. The McIntires said they'll likely use the money for a family vacation.
Copycat items have popped up on eBay, including cornflakes shaped like Hawaii and Virginia. There's also been a potato chip shaped like Florida, and Illinois cornflake paraphernalia, including T-shirts and buttons.

Aamir gone bald for Ghajini...

Aamir at last went bald for his forthcoming venture "Ghajini" which is a remake of a bilingual south film with the same name. This was the pic captured when he attended the premiere of the film "Race". Accompanying him was his sweetheart Kiran Rao. But I have a question for you folks, who designed their costumes for this premiere show. Aamir is in the outfit of a waiter from a suburban restaurant and Miss Kiran, looks as if she came running from a beauty parlour, with her makeup half done and her outfit is definitely a salon cloth.

The bald head suites Aamir every bit. Look at the arms man has he just come out of the gym or what. They were not that athletic when he termed Shahrukh as no. 2 just two weeks back. Huh, the perfectionist.....

Quantum of Solace

Quantum of Solace, the next James Bond film, is to be released on 31 October - its producers have announced. The main film shoot, with Marc Forster directing, began at Pinewood Studios, Buckinghamshire, in January. The title of the film, which follows on from 2006's Casino Royale, is taken from a short story published by Bond creator Ian Fleming in 1960.

The Filming of the 22nd film in the series, and Daniel Craig's second outing as 007, has already taken place in Panama and the United States.

In January, Craig said the title Quantum of Solace made reference to how Bond's heart was broken at the end of Casino Royale. At the end of the last movie, Bond has the love of his life taken away from him and he never got that quantum of solace. Craig said the new film would follow 007 as he goes out "to find the guy who's responsible" for her death.

Windows Vista SP1 released...

The much talked about microsoft's vista SP1 is out and available for download from the official website itself. It was rumoured in almost all the tech websites yesterday that sp1 is going to be released in the first half of 2008 which proved to be an accurate prediction.

As of now there is not much information about what are the new improvements to the operating system or are there any significant fixes or bug removals, blah blah blah. But one thing is that there is not much fanfare for sp1 of Vista.

There is also a rumour doing rounds that XP sp3 is in the offering in the near future. Some websites even predicted a release of sp3 in this week itself. I am eagerly waiting for this release though.

Guess whose pic is it?

King Khan, Bollywood Bhadshah, ShahRukh Khan. Yes its him I guess in his college days. The guys around him might not have any idea beside whom they were standing. None would have expected that the guy standing among them would one day have more fans than Tom Cruise himself.

Down for everyone or just you?

I found this interesting article on lifehacker. It is really useful to us when we are in a bit of doldrums regarding the website you like to visit. It tells you whether the website is down for everyone or just for you. In that way you could just stay calm in case it is down for everyone or look for the problem why it is not working with you.
It works like this, if you are looking up your mail or some video on youtube and it suddenly stops, just copy the url and paste it in this site downforeveryoneorjustme.com and press return and it does the job for you.
I just now hit a wild thought, guess if this site is down too whom should I contact. Go to sleep yaar. Get some rest.
