A small Satire...

1. The Wall Street Journal is read by the people who run the country.

2. The New York Times is read by people who think they run the country.

3. The Washington Post is read by people who think they should run the country.

4. USA Today is read by people who think they ought to run the country but don't really understand the Washington Post. They do, however like the smog statistics shown in pie charts.

5. The Los Angeles Times is read by people who wouldn't mind running the country, if they could spare the time, and if they didn't have to leave L.A. to do it.

6. The Boston Globe is read by people whose parents used to run the country.

7. The New York Daily News is read by people who aren't too sure who's running the country, and don't really care as long as they can get a seat on the train.

8. The New York Post is read by people who don't care who's running the country either, as long as they do something really scandalous, preferably while intoxicated.

9. The San Francisco Chronicle is read by people who aren't sure there is a country, or that anyone is running it; but whoever it is, they oppose all that they stand for. There are occasional exceptions if the leaders are handicapped minority, feministic atheist dwarfs, who also happen to be illegal aliens from ANY country or galaxy as long as they are democrats.

10. The Miami Herald is read by people who are running another country, but need the baseball scores.

My new desktop...

This is my new desktop with the usual rainlendar calendar. But the wallpaper is new one which I picked from one of the desktops featured on LifeHacker. The photo of Aishwarya Rai is more like pinned onto the desktop using a slideshow program called DeskPhoto

One more thing that I have done to this desktop is that I created a new folder and when I dragged it towards the right side of the desktop, it has opened up something like a bar and it is showing out all the files inside the folder. This I found little handy as it hides all the crap away from my desktop but still gives me an option to easily access the files.

You can download the wallpaper from here...

This is what I call "Living Life KingSize"

These are the pics from one of my brother's party. Just look at the Biryani and the decoration it has got. They I guess, must have had the time of their lives. My brother is one lucky guy. He has got such a good company.

I guess the beers are from Budweiser.  I never had one till date but just look at the chicken dish. I just went wow....

What is Cloud Computing...

Ever wondered what the heck is Cloud Computing? Cloud computing refers to the use of Internet ("cloud") based computer technology for a variety of services. It is a style of computing in which dynamically scalable and often virtualised resources are provided as a service over the Internet. Users need not have knowledge of, expertise in, or control over the technology infrastructure "in the cloud" that supports them.

The concept incorporates software as a service (SaaS), Web 2.0 and other recent, well-known technology trends, in which the common theme is reliance on the Internet for satisfying the computing needs of the users. Often-quoted examples are Salesforce.com and Google Apps which provide common business applications online that are accessed from a web browser, while the software and data are stored on the servers.

The cloud is a metaphor for the Internet, based on how it is depicted in computer network diagrams, and is an abstraction for the complex infrastructure it conceals.

Gmail adds attachment upload progress bar...

Whenever I had to make an attachment in Gmail, I used to worry whether the process is going on smoothly or not. This was because there wasn't any progress bar which shouts for you that the attachment is being uploaded to Google servers. But now the almighty has listened and added a new progress bar which shows the status of your upload or attachment. This is a good step by google which takes the worry out of some of us mere souls....

Once again Hail Google...

Don't like your job, Don't say So...

Kimberley Swann, 16, used to work for Ivell Marketing and Logistics of Clacton, U.K., but not any more. she was fired from her job just because she wrote on her FaceBook page that she felt her job was boring. What does Facebook has to do with her job? Her employer is so adamant about Social Accountability that they ended her employement with them, with immediate effect.

Here is the update what she got:

"Following your comments made on Facebook about your job and the company we feel it is better that, as you are not happy and do not enjoy your work we end your employment with Ivell Marketing & Logistics with immediate effect."

And the funny part is that she never mentioned her company's name anywhere on the page, but still she had to bear the brunt.

Google has provided an Dashboard for it's Apps, which indicates more or less the health reports of it's major Apps. This has come in the wake of Gmail's failure to launch on 26th of this month. Hence, this comes as a welcome gesture from Google to let it's users know the status of some important apps like Gmail, Spreadsheets, Calendar, Sites, etc...

Win 7 to arrive in Late Sep or Oct...

There is this grand news that Windows 7  is going to be released late Sep or Early October. This is very good news for guys like me who is a fanatic of this yet to be refined Operating System from Windows. I have already used the beta version of Win 7 and have felt the heat in it. It was one cool ride with the OS consuming pretty less system resources compared to its predecessor.

Amelia Agrawal, a spokeswoman for Microsoft, maintains the official company position that Windows 7 will be available within three years of when Vista shipped. The news would corroborate word of an April release candidate that would let Microsoft finish, manufacture and deliver Windows 7 well ahead of the holidays.

Welcome to the new author Auro...

Plz welcome the new author Aurobind Enugala. He is a close friend of mine who has agreed to post on my blog, just on my request. He is the guy who has introduced me to the true face of internet and made Google my dear friend. His posts will be a new addition and strength to my blog. Hope he likes his stay here...

Funny but serious facts about economy...

Today morning I was watching CNN and there was this conversation, that took place between the presenter and a reporter. They were talking about the downfall of shares in the US market. They took the digg at some big companies such as GM, Citi group....

It was really funny to see the no.'s.

Price for a spark plug : $3.79 Share value of GM : $2.22

User charge at atm : $ 3         Share value of Citi :  $2.6

Cost of a GE Phone : $ 17.99  Share value of GE  :  $9.08

These figures were quoted by the news team, in a rather funny way. They were playing a guessing game with these numbers. But when you look at the big picture, what you see is how many families, how many individuals are suffering by the stock market slump. How many have lost their hard earned money by investing in the stock market. Is there a way to restock their money. Is there an end to this downfall in the coming months. Only the almighty can answer this question...

Funny Vista copying...

What if your GPS shows that it takes 365 days to travel a distance of 10 miles, what if your weighing machines shows your weight as 786 lbs, what if your windows os boots up after 7 days, you feel some pain some where which I can't explain here because of sensoring.

Have a look at the pic above where a Vista operating system shows that it needs 46368 days and 5 hours to copy a glorious 1.45 gb of data. Mr. Bill Gates what do you think are you doing in Richmond. Why did you throw this shit at us. Don't you think we deserve something better like XP. I am a hardcore hater of Vista and every other day something like this pops up from nowhere and the Vista rankings in my book droop down...

Why AVG Anti-Virus...

The anti-virus software which is ruling the roost is AVG anti-virus. The anti-virus industry is one place where you need to be really a good player otherwise you will be kicked into abysmal. In such a industry if one software can stand tall above all those big players, what right could this software be doing?

First of all, AVG is a free software, which means you need not spend your hard earned money just to protect yourself from some bl**dy hacker. AVG is the only antivirus which gives frequent updates even though it earns nothing directly by the sale of its software. You never get any panic calls from AVG users unlike other anti-virus users, who keep crying foul about their anti-virus softwares.

Next, the user interface of AVG is so good, that even a novice can operate it with his eyes wide shut. You don't need to manually update or you don't need to renew your out-of-date software. You can just sit back and enjoy the ride.

I was one of those loyal fans of Norton anti-virus, but I used to have virus attack once every full-moon. This made me annoyed, disgusted and you know what disgruntled as well. And then came the saviour in the form of AVG. Use it to, believe the difference...

Apple mimicing Chrome...

Apple has released the all new Safari 4 Beta for Windows and Mac. I just downloaded it and the striking feature from this is the 'Top Sites' thing. This feature has been grinded and muddled in both Chrome and Opera. But still Apple is banking on this feature for their new release Safari 4 Beta.

The look and feel was just like the Chrome with the menu items on the right top of the browser and the page loading was more or less like Opera. But this definitely is not one of them when it comes to the bookmarking stuff. There is the usual personal or bookmarks bar, the rendering engine, etc...

One more eye-catching feature is that of the 'Cover Flow' where you can flip through your site history or bookmarks. But this feature isn't that great, since you don't go to bookmarks to see what that bookmark is or what we are doing with that. The tabs are also taken to the top, which I feel is an unnecessary thing.

The Media Player wars...

It's the war between two of the best user-friendly media players available out in the market for Windows users. But who is the winner. Who has been at the recieving end. The two media players in question are VLC player and the GOM media player.

The media player which has had a great run is VLC from the past 2 years. But here comes competition. Now enters GOM with its cusomisable shortcuts and easy to understand interface and starts grabbing all the market which was once VLC's playground. But which one is truly good. I felt in my opinion that VLC scores over GOM when it comes to startup but customizing VLC is a tidious task. GOM is a bit slow when it comes to startup but it runs smoothly after that.

I never had a real problem with any of these two but I go with GOM, and the only reason being its user interface. One more thing that puts GOM on the top is it's appearance. It has the look of a big screen in a theatre or something else like that. Unlike VLC, GOM has good user base who are loyal not just by ignorance but by choice...

Here's the list of winners of the 81st Annual Academy Awards, with the Slumdog sweeping almost in all the categories it has been nominated for. Slumdog Millionaire has won a total of 8 awards.

Hail Rahman.

A.R. Rahman has won both Oscars for which he has been nominated for. More than the awards he gave a scintillating performance which dominated the performance of his competitor from the movie Wall-E. I watched the awards ceremony with my heart pounding and was literally shouting at the top of my voice when Rahman won both the awards. I feel proud with my chest bulging out. I am proud to be an Indian once again.

Delhi - 6 review ...

When you see the title of this movie, the director, the music director and especially the ads you expect a lot from the movie. But the movie Delhi 6 has failed to reach the expectations on it. But it holds some good ground when it comes to the basic idea.

The director Rakeysh .... Mehra was able to extract some good action from the lead pair as well as from other actors. The visuals were good when it comes to the interiors of Delhi but there wasn't much exposure to the virtual Delhi(I used 'virtual' here because, everybody feels that real Delhi is in the slums and poverty). Almost all the actors have done justice to their roles and nobody went overboard.

Things I liked::

  • Abhishek's character as a confused NRI born to a hindu father and muslim mother.
  • Atul Kulkarni's soft character.
  • Strong diggs at the religious blindness and stupidity of the morons in the society around us.
  • Definitely the tunes from Mr. Rahman.
  • Sonam Kapoor was pretty good as the old city girl with high aspirations.
  • "Dilgira" song has some cool graphics and it was really a colorful song.
  • The Kala bhandar concept was definitely a innovative thing.

Things I ......, you know me::

  • First of all the placement of songs, this really irritated not just me but everyone in the theatre. I don't know what the hell was the director thinking. It wasn't any freakish mujra damn it.
  • The reason why Abhishek wants to stay back in India wasn't justified to the fullest.
  • The narration of the story was a bit slow.
  • The Ramleela episode was a prolonged one which some times freaks you out.
  • The climax was good but didn't by any means helped the movie.
  • The first half was a bit slow with all those introductions of different characters.
  • Rahman's music was wasted big time. It was for the music otherwise the movie would have fallen flat on it's face.

Finally the movie is definitely not a must watch. You can skip the movie in theatres but can relish the music after the dvd hits the stands. One thing everyone who watched the movie quoted was

Idea is good but execution bad...

UCLA professor searching for Obama...

A University of California professor located in LA has done what the American intelligence and federal agencies funded in Billions couldn't accomplish in 9 long years. He has zeroed in on the location of the dreaded terrorist Osama Bin Laden. He has used his skill in geography coupled with some other technologies and a lot of common sense to find the hide out of Laden.

He has come to a conclusion that Laden must be in one of the three houses that he has cornered on. The present location that he is pointing to, is in the rural areas of Pakistan, the town of Parachinar which is very close to the Afghan border but still the Pakistani Government denies these charges...

Hope Mr. Obama catches Osama as soon as possible which will become a blow in the arm for the terrorists...

Oscar Winners leaked...

There is this list of Oscar winners that is said to be leaked over the internet. This list is somewhat close to the general predictions but the question here is, whether the list is genuine. You have to wait till the Oscar's night to cross check the list.

One sad thing for me in this list is that it doesn't predict my fav musician A.R.Rahman. I am waiting with my eyes wide open, ears pointed outwards and hands stretched to the fullest just to know that Rahman has won an Oscar. I would be really disappointed if he doesn't win the Oscar. This may not be his best composition till date but still he deserves this prestigious award.

Here goes the list of winners::

Actor in a leading role: Mickey Rourke
Actor in a supporting role: Heath Ledger
Actress in a leading role: Kate Winslet
Actress in a supporting role: Amy Adams
Animated Feature Film: Wall-E
Art Direction: The Dark Knight
Cinematography: Slumdog Millionaire
Costume Design: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Directing: Slumdog Millionaire
Documentary feature: Man on Wire
Documentary short: The Conscience of Nhem En
Film editing: Milk
Foreign language film: Departures
Makeup: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Music (Score): Defiance
Music (Song): Down to Earth (Wall-E)
Best Picture: Slumdog Millionaire
Short film (animated): Presto
Short film (live action): Auf Der Strecke (On The Line)
Sound editing: Wall-E
Sound mixing: The Dark Knight

One of the doubts that I sensed is that they did not mention the director's name in place of the award for the best director, instead they mentioned the movie.

Single Google Query uses 1000 Machines...

Some spokesperson from Google has recently revealed that a single query that we make in Google uses about 1000 machines, which by any means might be one of the large numbers. Considering the fact that the work it does is pretty little, I guess this might be a huge huge number of machines in usage.

Don't talk loudly, Don't live at all...

This is the news I read today regarding Indian students in Australia. The police in Australia have decided to teach some manners to Indian students studying in Australia. What??????

It is a known fact world wide that we Indians are the well mannered, respectful, highly praised people world wide. And now the Australians think we don't know manners and they think we should learn manners from them where 'racism' is the norm of the day.

They feel that talking loudly in once own language is bad manners. I dispute a lot with this statement. The Indian students are talking freely without any restrictions but they are not rude to anyone out there. We Indians, just do our job and never interfere in other's work but still we are targetted every other day. This trend has to change or else the world has to bare the brunt of.....

Man drinks, falls on rails, becomes Millionaire...

This is the story of a NewYork drunkard, Dustin Dibble, age 25. Why am I calling him a drunkard. Just because of jealousy. One night he drank, lost consiousness, fell in front of a subway train, got his leg severed and now he gets a compensation of $2.33 million from the MTA which makes him a millionaire. This is the story of sheer luck in disguise.

If I were offered such amount, I would have jumped from the leaning tower of Pisa. But this is injustice on the part of the attorney, who ruled the case in favor of the drunkard. I felt the reason was funny. It says that since the driver of the train didn't stop the train before hitting Mr. Dustin even though he had time, the judgement goes in Dustin's favor. But come on who expects a living being to sit on the rails in the night unless he wants to commit suicide, or something else like that...

Laptop buying guide for the novice...

Makeuseof website has published a laptop buying guide for 2009. This has come as a refreshing thing from this site which is more fun loving than any other tech site. It was more like telling the novice what to look in for a laptop before buying it.

They have not taken any one side when it comes to Mac or Windows. They have shown that there is not much selection when it comes to Mac but you can find a lot of offers when it comes to Windows is what they say...

My go at NASCAR for PS3...

Yesterday, I played this game called NASCAR on PlayStation 3. This is my first stint with the PS3, yes I sound wierd but true, this is my first time. And the game I played wasn't that great a game. This was the feeling that I had after I played it for twice or thrice. But when I read about the championships and the "chase" mode in this game I felt that it is not so bad either.

There are a lot more things to explore in this game like the drivers, tracks, and most importantly the rubbing of the cars. I felt the best part was that a small mistake could send you from the front of the race to the end position in the race. The feel of the joystick wasn't that great for me. May be my hands weren't meant for this kind of a joystick. But still there must be a few out there who feel the same way as I do...

Jaalimudi Air Water Project

Jaalimudi is an age old village which has been suffering from drinking water problems from ages. At last they have got something to talk about err drink about, not just by the local media but international media as well. An innovative company air-water corporation of Miami Beach Florida have built an air-water machine which helps in providing clean pottable water for the local villagers.

Thanks to this technology, the local villagers have been able to get some drinking water. Otherwise they would have to walk for hours just for fetching a pot of water which by any means isn't fair. I hope this technology would spread to other villages and under previlaged areas where some pure drinking water is a dire necessity.

In this new technology, moisture from the air is collected as water into some tanks by the air-water machine and from there it is supplied to the villagers through taps. This technology is supposed to produce around 800 to 1000 lts of water everyday.

Adobe, Are you listening???

There is this weird problem that I faced this evening with Adobe Flash Player. It wouldn't let me reinstall it. I tried every other means I know but with no victory. Then finally I googled it and after 3 hours of rigorous search I found the reason. This is one funny reason which I even reported to Adobe.

The flash player doesn't install in your system if the root directory isn't named as "C:". I was like what the cr**!!! My root directory was an F: which meant I can't install flash player.

My USB stick came up as the savior. When I mounted it on my laptop it came up as the "C:" drive and the problem is solved but don't you think this is stupid...

Today morning the people of Texas were in for a surprise when some of them witnessed the fall of a fireball like thing from the sky. There is no confirmed report whether it is the debris from the satellites that collided recently or any interterrestrial object that entered earth's atmosphere but that thing has created a furor in the cowboy state.

Slumdog still in slums or what?

In the movie Jamal is asked to name the poet who wrote the song "Darshan Do Ghanshyam Nath Mori Ankhiya Pyasi" during the show- Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? He was given four options from the show host- Surdas, Tulsidas, Meerabai and Kabir. It seems all these options are wrong. I just read this in one of those news sites.

The song, "Darshan Do Ghanshyam Nath Mori Ankhiy a Pyasi", that features in this movie, is from 1957 film "Narsi Bhagat" which was directed by Devendra Goel. This song, based on one of the oldest ragas — "Rag Kedar", was written by eminent Hindi poet and Bollywood song writer Gopal Singh Nepali. However, some people believe that it was originally written by Narsi which was later translated by Nepali.

Obviously, none of the given options is the right answer. Hence, the guy shouldn't be a millionaire. But he is going to the Oscars as well...

Valentine's Day...

This day was supposed to be the day of love but what has it become. Just watch the news from India where every other city has registered atleast one crime in the name of love. When two lovers can't walk freely on the roads, when a guy can't buy flowers for his girl, when two love birds can't watch a movie or go to a park on Valentine's day then where is the freedom, where is the so called democracy.

I have seen so many reports coming on tv and newspaper regarding these creepy incidents going on in the name of opposing Valentine's day in India but why, what for all this...

Google's Valentine's Day logo...

This is somewhat different from Google. I expected a lot of stuff in the logo with the cupid somewhere around but Google went along with it's age old principle "Sssssimplicity....."

My latest desktop...

There is nothing much to be talked about here but trust me this is one productive desktop for the regular user. The icons at the bottom are a mix of previously mentioned rocket dock and a few crystal icons I found in Wiki. The wallpaper was from the LifeHacker website where a user shared his desktop just like me.

These days I am finding a lot of use with the taskbar. I never thought it was so useful. I just added some quick links to the quick launch bar and it is really worthwhile. If you want to know anything else about the desktop just leave your comment I will get back to you...

Deleting and Adding recycle bin icon...

This post is exclusively for windows XP users. I found this info through my googling.

Removing the recycle bin icon...

  • First of all, make a backup of your system registry, just in case you might screw up.
  • Click Start-->Run-->Type "REGEDIT"
  • Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
    CurrentVersion\Explorer\Destkop\NameSpace\
  • Delete this key: {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}
  • Restart your system and voila the icon is gone.

To get back your recycle bin:

  • Right click on your desktop.
  • Point to "New". Then select "Folder" to create a new folder.
  • Name the new folder
      "Recycle Bin.{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}".

And one more thing don't blame me if you mess up. Just want to help get rid of the dirty icon on your beautiful desktop.

My Gmail usage...

You know what!!! I am obsessed with numbers and not just that I wait for them for ages as well. I am just posting my gmail usage as I have just used up 1234 MB of gmail's space and that too for free. I just keep watching the numbers when they are in a series or if there is any sequence in them or something else like that. So, I thought to share with you guys...

My new favorite...

Introducing the all new err... somewhat new Dell Latitude XT2. I just saw it today and went awe about it. This is the first time that I have seen a laptop/tablet in action and it is really awesome. It has got the multi-touch screen and has some cool gestures to make it work.

I configured one for myself and a perfectly working XT2 for my needs would cost me a cool $2570. Ofcourse it is way too much but just look at the video of this cool thing in action and you will agree with me that it is worth it's price. Ofcourse it is a bit low when it comes to the power user thing but you know, it is a technical marvel.

Scroll down and watch this cool video by following this link.

US Airways Flight 1549 being towed away...

I guess you remember the flight accident that took place few weeks back in New Jersey. This incident involved the hair width escape from death, for around 150 passengers on board the US Airways Flight 1549.

This is the photo that was taken when the undamaged portion of the flight was being taken to some unknown location in New Jersey.

American Football...huh!!!

Pittsburgh Steelers have won the XLIII (43rd) Super Bowl just now. What is it was my first question. It is the match between two teams the Pittsburgh steelers and the Arizona Cardinals who are the champs in their respective leagues. This is what I know about this game till now.

The Pittsburgh team has won this game with a score of 27-23. The game was so close that the game was still anybody's game till the last 30 seconds of the game. The keywords of the game are Quarter Back, Touch Down, Kick Off and Time Outs. I actually watched one more match before this and the player I watched out most was Fitzgerald of Arizona.

I never watched this game before but I am slowly becoming a fan of this game. Trust me you will love this game and let me tell you this is definitely a man game...
